Do I Need A Special License To Drive a Fridge Van?

Contrary to what you might think, all you need to hire a refrigerated van is a standard driving licence. Standard licences are sufficient to drive vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes.

What Do I Need To Bring With Me To Collect My Fridge Van?

On the day, we ask that you bring both parts of your driving licence to collect your fridge van, as well as two forms of identification.These include a passport, utility bill (within 60 days) or bank statement (within 60 days).

Do I Need To Pay A Deposit?

We ask for a £250 deposit on a debit or credit card. This covers part of the insurance excess in the event of an accident or damage incurred whilst in your care or any other costs such as fuel shortages or toll charges.

How Does Insurance Work?

Self Drive Insurance - Our refrigerated vans are fully covered by comprehensive insurance but nothing carried in the van, this is the responsibility of the hirer. The insurance excess is £750.

You can insure the van under your own insurance but it must be a Commercial Policy. We will require proof that our vehicle will be insured fully comp. If you are self insured you will be responsible to your insurer for any excess applicable if the van is damaged.

What Happens If My Van Breaks Down

We maintain all of our refrigerated vans to a high standard and our refrigerated vans are all equipped with state-of-the-art TranScan monitoring systems but we are aware that problems arise from time to time.

We operate a 24/7 breakdown service - call us if you break down and we will be happy to assist you.

What Age Do I Need To Be To Hire A Van?

To hire a McGladery van, you must be between the ages of 23 and 69 years and have held your licence for 2 years.

Does It Cost Extra To Take My Van Outside Northern Ireland?

It does not cost extra to take your van out of Northern Ireland, as long as you advise us when you speak with us to confirm your booking. There’s no need to advise us if you are travelling over the border to the Republic of Ireland.

Can I Extend The Hire Period Of My Fridge Van?

We are happy to extend your refrigerated van hire with prior approval, where availability allows. If you are using your own insurance, it is your responsibility to extend the period of hire with your insurance company.
